I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2027 with #TeamStroke

I've joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2027.

In 2025, our family was personally affected by stroke when my dad suffered one. It was one of the toughest experiences we have ever been through as a family, watching someone we love so much suddenly become a shell of the man he once was.

But thanks to the incredible hard work, care and dedication of the NHS staff and the rehabilitation team, Dad was able to regain some of the independence and parts of himself that we feared we had lost. Eventually, he was able to come home, and Team Stroke continued to support him as he learned to adapt to a completely new way of life.

That is why I am taking on this run — to raise money for Team Stroke and help them continue supporting other people and families who are going through what we have been through. Having Dad here with us today is something we will never take for granted, and I want to help give other families that same hope and support.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Dad throughout his journey, especially Mum and Freya, and all of our friends and family who have stood by him every step of the way.

And, most importantly, a huge thank you to Dad himself. For having the grit, strength and determination to get up every single day and give 100% to getting as much out of the life he has now. Watching his determination and resilience has been truly inspiring.

Dad is, without a doubt, the most inspirational person I have ever met.

Thank you to Team Stroke and the NHS for everything you have done, and for helping me still have one of my greatest role models here with us today.

This is such an amazing thing to do Leah not only for your Dad but to all those who have been through what we all have as a family. Like you me tioned without the Stroke Support team following on from Dads rehabilitation atthe hospital its very hard to imagine where we would be now without there valuable involvement providing care at home. They truly are amazing people and this is such a fantastic opportunity for us to thank them for all they have and continue to do for our Jay. ❤️
