I'm taking part in the TCS London Marathon as part of #TeamStroke in memory of Amanda Platt (Mandi)
On Sunday 27th April 2025 I will be running the London marathon and raising money for the Stroke Association.
On 28th May this year, a friend and relative of mine, Amanda Platt (Mandi) suddenly and tragically passed away without warning. Mandi was 47 years old and she was a fit, healthy, and energetic woman. Mandi was found by her sister Claire, who is my sister in law, at home and was unresponsive. She was rushed to hospital however she never regained consciousness having suffered a brain haemorrhage.
This was something for which she had not displayed any symptoms and could never have been predicted. She was just days away from taking her dream holiday to Greece and also had tickets to see Girls Aloud in concert upon her return. Sadly she never got to do either.
Mandi was an organ donor, and somehow out of the tragedy of her death, she directly contributed to saving the lives of five people, including a child, due to her wonderful and kind donation.
Mandi’s death has left a huge gap in the lives of her family and friends who are still struggling to come to terms with her passing.
It is out of love and admiration for Mandi that I have entered the London marathon. I have always enjoyed running and have done so on and off for many years however I am definitely in no way a professional athlete or a speedy runner! I am now undertaking a training program to prepare. The furthest I have run before is a half marathon in 2024!
My aim is to raise £2000 which will be donated to the Stroke association which was a charity close to Mandi’s heart, as she and her sister Claire lost their beautiful Mum Carol on 21st January 2015 aged 68 years to a Stroke. They continued to support the charity after their Mum’s death.
Currently in the UK:
Stroke strikes every five minutes
100,000 people have strokes each year
There are 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK
I am incredibly grateful for all donations however large or small and look forward to sharing my result with you when I cross the finish line.
Love Kerrie 💕💕💕💕
