My family’s experience with stroke
Thursday 8th JanOver a decade ago, my grandmother suffered her first stroke. This was a life-changing event for her and for our family. While she showed great determination and strength in her quick recovery, the stroke had a lasting impact on her health and independence and it made us aware of how serious and far-reaching the effects of having a stoke can be.
And then on, since 2014, she has suffered 2 strokes, one previously just before the Christmas that has passed. However, after each stroke, she has been able to pick herself back up again and continue. This I admire from her to be determined to try to continue the life she had before the stroke. Showing that nothing will break her down.
I am running for the Stroke Association to support the vital work they do in stroke research, recovery services, and support for patients and their families. Their work helps people navigate life after stroke and provides essential resources at a time when individuals and families are often overwhelmed and uncertain.
By taking part in this run, I hope to raise awareness of the impact of stroke and contribute to an organisation that supports thousands of people facing similar challenges. This cause is personal to me, and running is my way of showing support for my grandmother and for everyone affected by stroke.
