I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2026 as part of #TeamStroke

I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2026.

This is my first Great North Run (might be my last haha) and I’m so glad that I’m doing it for #TeamStroke. I’m doing this for my Mum who suffered a stroke in 2023. She’s done absolutely amazing with her recovery since and we couldn’t be more proud.

Her two grandchildren Lily & Oliver keep her very busy and we love watching my Mum & Dad with them.

There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

No survivor should have to face life after stroke without stroke support, providing consistent, tailored help on the long journey to recovery.

We work with the stroke community to ensure the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

My 1st 5k/Parkrun!🏃🏼‍♀️

Saturday 8th Nov
I did it!🏃🏼‍♀️🥇 My first park run 5k, no stopping and a personal best 🥹 Thank you Town Moor Parkrun 🫶🏻 My 10k training starts on Monday! 😂

First ever 5k! 🏃🏼‍♀️

Monday 20th Oct
This time last year I was 7 stone overweight, miserable and my mental health wasn’t brilliant either. Today I’ve just ran my first 5k in 36 minutes, miracles CAN happen 😂🏃🏼‍♀️ #GNR2026 #first5k

4 weeks training done! 🏃🏼‍♀️

Monday 13th Oct
I’ve been running 3x a week (with x2 strength training sessions) for 4 weeks now and I’m noticing a massive difference with my breathing and shorter recovery time ❤️‍🩹. I hope to keep improving and should be able to run a full 5k without stopping at a decent pace at the start of November 2025🤞🏻. Then the real half marathon training begins 😬. I’ve just bought some Hoka Challenger 7’s and hopefully they will improve my performance and decrease my chance of injury in the future. A big thing for me since losing 7 stone is maintaining my weight by introducing running and strength training, so it becomes routine in my day to day life. I feel so far that it is becoming routine and my general fitness/mental health have improved in 4 weeks. I hope it’s on upwards from here!

First week of training complete! 🏃🏼‍♀️💜

Sunday 21st Sep
I’ve completed my first week training for the Great North Run 2026 😂🏃🏼‍♀️ - it’s been an eye opener but I’m doing it for a brilliant cause 💪🏻💜 #TeamStroke I’m on the hunt for running trainers if anyone has any suggestions? 👟 Every little helps 💜
