I’m taking part in the Great North Run 2026 as part of #TeamStroke
I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2026.
My brilliant friend Susan usually does her long runs with her husband Barry. In 2023 Barry suffered two strokes. As a result of his hard work and determination in recovery, Barry and Susan still run together over shorter distances. I’m going to be a (very poor!) substitute running mate for this longer run.
I first met Susan and Barry in Newcastle over 20 years ago so it’s a huge privilege to be able to run the GNR with Susan and her daughter Niamh to raise funds for such a fantastic charity.
The Stroke Association provided Barry and Susan with so much support and information in their darkest days.
There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.
No survivor should have to face life after stroke without stroke support, providing consistent, tailored help on the long journey to recovery.
The Stroke Association work with the stroke community to ensure the very best care and support. They rely on support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.
