I'm taking part in the Bath Half Marathon as part of #TeamStroke
In march I’m running the Bath Half for the Stroke Association, a cause very close to heart as a stroke survivor myself.
When I was almost 3 years old, I had a stroke caused by the Chickenpox virus. All I remember from that time was my 2 leg braces that I had to wear on my left leg, one was pink and pretty, and the other was blue with splashes of colour that I didn’t like.
Whilst I had to learn to walk again, I was unbelievably lucky and have been able to live a normal life, thanks to my Mum and Dad who did rehabilitation exercises with me everyday, and a comprehensive 2 year aftercare program that helped me recover. To be able to run a half marathon for this charity supports other survivors return to their lives is very special 💜
There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.
The stroke association are here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.
