Royal Parks Half Marathon 2025

I'm taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon as part of #TeamStroke

I have joined #TeamStroke for the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2025.

This is charity particularly close to my family and I would love to use this event to raise awareness.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Why am I running for the Stroke Association?

Wednesday 9th Apr

This year I have decided to run the London Royal Park Half Marathon, in aid of the stroke association. This is a charity particularly close to me and my family.

I would love to use this charity event to raise awareness of the symptoms of a stroke and help to raise some money.

The FAST acronym (Face, Arms, Speech, Time) is a test to quickly identify the three most common signs of stroke.

Stroke: Signs and Symptoms. Early stroke detection is critical to maximising the chances of full recovery.

In the summer of 2024 my Grandma had a major stroke and unfortunately was unable to receive initial treatment. This caused major side effects including loss of use of the left side of her body, loss of vision, loss of mobility and cognitive problems.

During her 9 weeks in hospital, my grandma received visits from the stroke association charity, with stroke survivor volunteers. This encouragement helped my Grandma to push herself to regain enough strength for discharge.

Following this, my Grandma stayed at a Brain Kind home, a rehabilitation facility. The incredible staff here helped her to re-learn the fundamentals required to return home.

Following some home adjustments, my Grandma has now returned home with my Grandpa and is continuing her recovery there!
