I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2025 as part of #TeamStroke

I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2025.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Why I’m running the GNR:

Thursday 23rd Jan
I’m running in memory of my sister Sharon who passed away suddenly in March 2024 from a stroke aged only 58 years.

The Great North Run will be my first half marathon and the course has a special relevance as it finishes in South Shields where both my Grandma and Mum were born and we enjoyed many happy times there. 

It’s only in this past year that I learned that strokes are so common, preventable and with the right therapy lives can be rebuilt. This is why I’m running for this charity, in Sharon’s memory and to raise money for such a worthwhile cause. 

Every donation, whatever you can spare, will be greatly appreciated by myself and Sharon’s family ❤️ 


The Race:

60,000 determined and dedicated runners make the AJ Bell Great North Run the World’s biggest and best half marathon – famous for its warm North East welcome, unbeatable atmosphere and the millions raised for good causes. 

The AJ Bell Great North Run is an opportunity for us all to come together on the 7th September and support one another. Its magic can be hard to understand – until you have experienced it yourself. You’re guaranteed a running event like no other - and a finish line feeling you’ll never forget.

It's not all about the adults, the AJ Bell Junior & Mini Great North Run gives the kids a chance to experience that finish line feeling, earn a special medal & raise money for good causes.
