I'm taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2026 as part of #TeamStroke

On 20^th June 2023 my dad's life changed forever - he suffered from a massive ischemic stroke, which then led to a haemorrhage when surgeons tried to remove the clot from his brain.

He was left unable to talk, walk and never went back home. After seven weeks in hospital, he was transferred to a nursing home, where he would live for the eighteen months he survived. During this time he suffered from numerous infections, seizures and eventually a suspected brain bleed.

Seeing my dad in this state was horrendous and one I probably still haven't recovered from, even now. Not hearing his voice again was probably the most difficult part of it, as he was unable to truly communicate his thoughts and feelings about what had happened to him.

Strokes are brutal, quick and can be absolutely devastating for those affected, including those around them.

The Stroke Association is a vital lifeline for all those impacted by a stroke and that is why I am running the Royal Parks Half Marathon on the 11^th October. They are there to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. My dad's birthday would have been on the 6^th October, so it will be a way of honouring him, whilst hopefully making a difference to people's lives who have been turned upside down in an instant, like ours was that awful day.
