I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2025 as part of #TeamStroke

I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2025.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

My updates

Only 4 weeks to go…

Saturday 9th Aug
The last couple of weeks have had their ups and downs…

I was super excited when my race vest and run number both arrived in the post but also bitterly disappointed that i injured my foot on a long run. I’ve missed two weeks of training to allow some time to heal but I’m hoping it’s now on the mend and I can get back out this weekend for a long run.

I’ll be crossing that finish line no matter what so fingers crossed for no more setback in the next 4 weeks!

It’s been a while…

Tuesday 24th Jun
There’s still been lots of training happening even though I’ve been quiet on the fundraising front. Last week I completed the Lakesman Duathlon which involved a bike ride and a run. Now that’s complete I’ll be focussing on running ready for the Great North Run. Less than 11 weeks to go - my training plan now revolves around speed work and improving my pace!

February Update

Friday 28th Feb
Today marks a milestone in my training so far…. I completed my first 16k run! Training is paying off and I was able to complete more than three quarters of the half marathon distance in just less than 2 hours with less than 2 mins of walking time. Long runs are getting longer and fast runs are getting faster. Looking forward to seeing progress through March 😊

And so it begins….

Wednesday 29th Jan
Since starting couch to 5k in January 2023, it’s been a long, steady journey of improving my fitness, dropping a couple of dress sizes and challenging myself both physically and mentally. This year I’m taking on a half marathon - my longest “run” currently is 10k so it will be double the distance. Along with the challenge of actually doing the run, I’m also aiming to raise as much money as possible for the Stroke Association. 221 days to go…
