Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2026

I'm taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2026 as part of #TeamStroke

There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Why I’m running

Thursday 7th Aug

A little over a year ago, my granda suffered a stroke. In the months that followed, we watched him fight with quiet strength—but sadly, we lost him not so long ago. It’s hard to put into words what he meant to me and to everyone who loved him. He was the kind of man who didn’t say a lot, but his presence said everything. Strong, steady, and always there.

This year, I’ve decided to run the Edinburgh Marathon in his memory.

Running has become a part of how I process things—grief, stress, life. But this run isn’t just about me. It’s about honouring him. About doing something tough, something he would’ve admired, even if he’d never say it out loud. It’s my way of saying thank you, and I miss you, and I’ll carry a bit of you with me every step of the way.

I’ll be running for him, and for the many families affected by stroke. If you’ve lost someone, or watched them battle through recovery, you’ll understand how much this means. I’ll be sharing more as I train, and if you’re able to support or share, it would mean the world.

Granda, this one’s for you.
