We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Marathon Training Update
Friday 20th Feb I am really getting stuck into my Manchester Marathon Training Plan now, and really feeling the benefit of getting the miles in. I am really lucky to be part of an amazing all-female running club (St Pol Striders) and am being supported by Iona and Jilly who make sure I hit my weekly mileage target. This is somewhere in the region of 30-45 miles. Alongside this, I have my regular sessions with my personal trainer, Alex, do as many gym classes with Emily and Jack as possible and run with my wonderful niece, Katie, my Sunday bestie Alison and my friends who I’ve met through Striders, Tara, Ali, Ami, Cath to name but a few. I never thought I would say this, but I am starting to really enjoy getting the miles in.
Marathon Training Commenced
Tuesday 13th JanFor the past three years, I’ve taken part in the London Marathon My Way, completing three marathons along the Rochdale Canal. While training last year, I suffered a serious accident and, despite not being fully recovered, I still went on to complete the marathon. It wasn’t the sensible choice—but it showed me just how much determination can carry you through.
This year, I’ve decided to take on a proper marathon and raise funds for a charity that has supported a close friend over the past year and a half.
The Stroke Association does incredible work. Most of us know someone whose life has been affected by a stroke, and it’s something that can happen to anyone, at any time. None of us know what’s around the corner, and one day we may need that same support ourselves.
Marathon training officially started last week. It’s going to be tough, but I’m determined to push myself and aim to knock at least 30 minutes off my previous time.
I’m not a natural runner and I do find it challenging, which makes every bit of support mean even more. Whether that support comes through a donation or by running alongside me as I clock up the miles before the big day, I’ll be incredibly grateful.
