I'm taking part in the Brighton Marathon as part of #TeamStroke
Last September, my dad had a severe stroke and spent 10 months in the hospital across my second year of university, finally returning home in July. Whilst we’re so happy to have him home, we’re all still learning and adjusting to the long-term effects that a stroke causes.
Running a marathon has always been a dream of mine, and this year I’m doing it for him, and for the Stroke Association, who have been an incredible support to our family, as well as millions of stroke survivors across the uk.
The Stroke Association has been a great support for us during this time, checking in, giving us clear info, and providing a forum to allow us to speak to other families that have been effected by strokes.
There are 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, and around 100,000 strokes every year — one every five minutes. The Stroke Association helps people rebuild their lives, funds vital research, and fights for better care. They rely on donations to keep doing this work.
