I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2025 as part of #TeamStroke

It might seem a bit surprising that I've chosen this charity, given my own health challenges. But strokes have hit close to home for me, affecting both sides of my family. My uncles, Mervyn and Gary, were both struck by strokes when they were just a bit older than I am now. They were both super fit and active, so it was a shock to everyone.

I've seen firsthand how strokes can turn lives upside down, not just for the person affected but for their families too. It's not something you just bounce back from; the impact is far-reaching and life-changing.

After a little encouragement from a colleague at the work Christmas dinner (and I can't even blame it on the alcohol since I don't drink), I decided to put my fitness and rehab results to the test and do something positive with them.

I've waited until now to ask for donations because I wasn't sure my body would handle the training, and I didn't want to let anyone down. But after a few health hiccups, I'm now confident I'll at least finish (though who knows what state I'll be in). The last time I ran this race was nearly 20 years ago, and I finished in 1hr 42 mins. I'd love to beat that time, but let's see how it goes on the day
