I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2025 as part of #TeamStroke
I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2025.
There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.
We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

In memory of my grandad
Tuesday 22nd JulI’m running the Great North Run this year in memory of my grandad, Gordon.
He left us in 2020. At that time he was living in a nursing home with my grandma, and with COVID restrictions in place I never got the chance to say goodbye.
Gordon was a stroke survivor, and thanks to support he received from careers and specialists he had the strength to live out his final years with us.
I owe a lot to my grandad, he taught me so much over the years. He was a man of humour, wisdom, and craft. His ‘do it yourself’ attitude, democratic outlook, and genuine compassion for others, are qualities that I admire and value in my own life.
A stroke strikes every five minutes, and 100,000 people experince one every year in the UK. By donating to this incredible cause, you will help to raise awareness, and give support to other survivors so they receive the care, treatment and rehabilitation they need.
