I'm taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2026 as part of #TeamStroke
Hi all, I’m running a half marathon at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2026 as part of #TeamStroke to raise money for the Stroke Association — a cause that is close to my heart.
My Mum, Anne Marie Purvis, was fit, healthy, and full of life when she had an unexpected stroke at just 37. In a single moment, our lives changed forever. The stroke affected the left side of her brain, leaving her with aphasia - impacting her ability to speak, read and write and causing paralysis in her right hand. She later developed epilepsy as a result of the stroke, bringing even more challenges into her daily life.
On the 11th of February this year, my mum sadly passed away following a seizure caused by post-traumatic epilepsy. Losing her has been incredibly difficult and has completely turned my world upside down. This run now means even more to me and my mum was so excited for me to run it in honour of her.
Watching her navigate life after stroke showed me just how important support systems like the Stroke Association are. Becoming a young carer wasn’t something I ever expected, but it opened my eyes to the vital role these services play for both survivors and families.
I’m running this race in memory of my mum, to honour her strength,and to help ensure other families get the support we were so grateful for. Every donation — no matter how small — or even a wee share would mean the world 💜

The Stroke Association supports people to rebuild their lives after stroke, funds life-changing research, and campaigns for better care across the UK. They rely on donations to continue providing these vital services.
