The Jack Radley legacy continues... as I run the Berlin Marathon as part of #TeamStroke

I have once again joined #TeamStroke, this time for the Berlin Marathon 2024, following a successful Great North Run in 2023.

This marks the second event I have done to honour my Dad's legacy as I promised I would. I promised my Dad and my family that I would continue to help as many people I could, in any way I could, which is the way he lived his life. The Stroke Association provided me with information and support when Dad had his first stroke and was my first port of call when I needed to know what had happened and how we were then to care for him. Unfortunately Dad lost his battle following a second stroke, which was much bigger than the first, but many people live on and have to learn to deal with the after effects and rebuild their lives in many cases.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

The Stroke Association are here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. They believe, like me, that everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, and so work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support.

However, this is reliant on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

My intention is to raise as much as possible and do whatever we can to support this fantastic organisation so more people can access this support, and better understand how to rebuild their lives or care for loved ones.

My Dad taught me very early on in life that the best gift you can provide is simply to help someone else, and that's what I intend to do, so that he lives on within us and his legacy continues.

We also intend to hold fundraising events leading up to the marathon that will raise even more awareness of what this organisation does and of how strokes affect people and their families, so please keep an eye on this page and our socials as we release event details.
