I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2026 as part of #TeamStroke

I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2026.

There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

No survivor should have to face life after stroke without stroke support, providing consistent, tailored help on the long journey to recovery. 

We work with the stroke community to ensure the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Great North Run

13.1 Miles for something that matters

On Sunday 13th September I’ll be running my first ever half marathon, something I never thought I’d do, which means months of training, sore legs but all for a great cause. 

I chose this charity because one of my closest friends had a stroke age 45 the night before we went into the first lockdown of the Covid Pandemic. Everyone’s worlds turned upside down in the unpredicted times that were ahead but for my friends family it was heartbreaking. She suffered a Ischemic Stroke where a large area of her brain was affected by an infarct. No flights to go away to a UK hospital to get the care she needed, no visitors at our local hospital, the weeks went by with only FaceTime calls with the help from the nurses. She was left with Paralysis on her left side. Jayne had to relearn how to walk again, adapt to her new ways and with months of Physio , hospital appointments and lots of determination she’s smashing life and I’m in total ore of her and I wanted to challenge myself to help make a difference. 

Every mile I run I will be motivated by your support and I’ll be thinking of Jayne when the run gets hard.  Any donation, big or small will help the Stroke Association, if you’re able to support me I’d be incredibly grateful.
