I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2026.

There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

No survivor should have to face life after stroke without stroke support, providing consistent, tailored help on the long journey to recovery.

We work with the stroke community to ensure the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Why am I doing this?

Friday 16th Jan

On the 10th October, my life would change as my dad, had suffered a stroke. He spent 18 days in acute care, and during this time I decided I wanted to raise money for charity.

I looked into running the Great North Run (GNR) and told him of my plans, and that, unlike my regular Saturday morning parkruns, this one would be on TV! He was incredibly proud and we agreed to tackle his upcoming physio sessions, and my training runs as a team!

After leaving acute care, my dad moved to the stroke rehabilitation unit on the Letham Ward at Cameron Hospital and started the long road to recovery. Sadly, complications led to him becoming very unwell on Christmas Eve, and he passed away in the early hours of Boxing Day leaving his family heartbroken.

Whilst he will no longer be watching on TV, he'll be with me in spirit as I tackle the 13.1 miles in September and I hope to raise as much as possible in his memory, to help other stroke survivors.
