I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2025 as part of #TeamStroke

I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2025.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Darlington 10k Completed

Sunday 3rd Aug
Hard run this morning in changeable conditions. Made it to the finish line with a little help from a fellow runner!

Darlington 10k ready

Monday 21st Jul
My running number has arrived ahead of the Darlington 10k on 3rd August. This run will be the 1st part of my challenge to raise funds for Stroke Association.

Durham 10k

Monday 21st Jul
Successfully completed the Durham City 10k Run on 17th July in a time of 1 hour 6 minutes 44 seconds. Gaining a little bit of hill running ahead of September's Great North Run.

Training has resumed

Tuesday 8th Jul
After a brief rest/recovery week last week due to a slight niggle in my left ankle I'm happy to say training has officially resumed with no lasting side effects.
A couple of 2.5km and 2km runs on Sunday and Monday got the ball rolling again, followed up by an 11.5km run this evening in a little over 72 minutes.
Broke my fastest time for a 10km run in the process with a time of 61 minutes 54 seconds.

Thursday 12th Jun
Had an unexpected visit at work from a reporter from The Northern Echo today.  The reporter had seen the poster I have on display at work and came and asked if I was ok for a quick interview. Should be on their website shortly.

Training update

Thursday 12th Jun
Training is going really well, I'm ahead of where I thought I would be at this stage. I've managed to hit a single run distance of 10 miles in just under 2 hours. Looking good with just over 11 weeks to go until my 1st half marathon.

Fundraising target hit

I'm happy to say that my £350 fundraising target was reached earlier today. Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far, I'm very grateful for your generosity.

I'm not stopping yet let's see how much we can raise together by September.

Training update

Thursday 1st May
A good training session this morning, pushed myself a little more and passed the 11km mark with a distance of 11.47km (7.1 miles) in 87 minutes. Going to gradually increase the distance over the coming weeks.

Training update

Friday 28th Mar
Training is going well and I've just started increasing the distance that I'm running. Currently running between 7km & 10 km a session. 
Training program has just been updated to further strengthen my legs. 
Will be taking a short break over the Easter period before increasing the running distance.

Extra event

Thursday 20th Mar
As you're all aware I'm taking on my first half marathon when I take part in this year's Great North Run in September.
However I've recently signed up to take part in my second Darlington 10km run in August.
In both events I will be raising vital funds for Stroke Association.

Running for my Granda

Monday 16th Sep
I've joined team Stroke for the 2025 Great North Run in aid of my Granda who suffered his 5th stroke this year. I would like to raise vital funds for the team that are helping to support my Granda and others that have gone through these life changing events.
