I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2025 as part of #TeamStroke

I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2025.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

Why I’m Running the Great North Run for the Stroke Association

Monday 9th Sep
I've always been passionate about cycling, having spent over 40 years on two wheels, riding three times a week.

However, running has always been a different story—a challenge I hadn’t quite embraced until recently. But this year, I’ve decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and take on a new kind of challenge by participating in the Great North Run 2025.

What inspired me to lace up my running shoes?

The Stroke Association, a charity that’s close to my heart. I’ve seen firsthand the devastating impact that strokes can have on individuals and their families. Whether it’s someone I know personally or stories I’ve come across, the resilience and strength of those affected by stroke are nothing short of inspiring. That’s why I’m running for this incredible cause—because every step I take, and every mile I complete, will help support the vital work they do.

My running journey is still in its early stages. Despite my cycling experience, I’m a newcomer to running. I started with Parkrun and the Couch to 5k program, gradually building up my stamina and confidence on the road. It hasn’t been easy, but each run brings me closer to my goal.

The Great North Run will be the biggest challenge I’ve ever faced on foot, but I’m ready to give it my all—not just for myself, but for everyone who benefits from the work of the Stroke Association.

This isn’t just about crossing the finish line; it’s about making a difference. By supporting my run, you’ll be contributing to research, support, and resources for stroke survivors and their families. Your donation, no matter how big or small, will help change lives and give hope to those affected by stroke.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and for your generosity. Together, we can make a real impact.
