I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2025 as part of #TeamStroke
I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2025.
There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.
We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

My reason for running
Friday 20th Sep I have worked as a therapy assistant in stroke rehab for 20+ years so this is a charity very close to my heart. Last year my husband Steven and I lost our beautiful daughter Freya unexpectedly. This caused a huge amount of stress and strain. Steve suffered a TACS stroke on 01.09.23 and was left with a right sided hemiplegia, apahsia and dysphasia. He has worked so hard over the last year and has made amazing strides to taking his life back and regaining his independence. I can’t thank South Tees NHS Foundation Trust enough for the support they have given us. The stroke service is outstanding and the ongoing community therapies have been key in helping Steve progress. I want to raise awareness of this life changing condition and let people know that we have such a valuable resource available to us.
