I'm taking part in the TCS London Marathon as part of #TeamStroke
After pulling out of the 2024 marathon due to injury, I’m very lucky to be given another go and will be (somehow) running the London Marathon 2025!!
In July 2014, my Dad suffered from an unexpected stroke, resulting in life changing effects for him and the whole family. After spending 8 months in hospital undergoing recovery rehabilitation, he was able to come home in February 2015 with part time care.
10 years on, he is now partially paralysed with a lack of speech, sight and general understanding, making communication extremely difficult. Whilst he thankfully no longer needs medicated care, he is wonderfully cared for each day by my step mum, Clare, and my sister, Katie. They are real life heroes!!
Dad attends weekly charity groups which are set up by volunteers from charities like the Stroke Association, that help stroke survivors to mix with other likeminded people and get additional support.
There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That’s one stroke every five minutes. The Stroke Association support people to rebuild their lives after stroke, working with the community to make sure people affected get the very best care and support possible. They rely on fundraising to provide vital services and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatment.
I’m running the London Marathon to raise as much money as possible to help them in this process, and to also raise awareness in how to reduce the risk and notice the symptoms quickly, which can consequently help to save lives.
Any donations, little or large, are greatly appreciated (and will help to hopefully push me across the finish line!!). 0km down, 42km to go….
