I'm taking part in the Great North Run 2026 through the stroke association for my mam.
I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run 2026.
The reason I am doing the great north run through this amazing charity is because on January 5th 2024 my mams life changed when she suffered from a stroke . She’s still stayed strong and does her best to do lots of activities however you can still see the effects . She was unaware at the time she was having a stroke at the beginning then she started to feel unwell and a tingling feeling started going down her right side of her body. My mam after a long wait at the QE hospital was rushed to the RVI hospital in Newcastle who confirmed she had suffered a stroke.
My mam received lots of support from the stroke association like physio, support nurse, group meetings which helped a great deal.
There are over 1.4 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.
No survivor should have to face life after stroke without stroke support, providing consistent, tailored help on the long journey to recovery.
We work with the stroke community to ensure the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.
