We are taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2026 as part of #TeamStroke for our Grandad!
We’re running the Royal Parks Half Marathon for our Grandad, Geoffrey Whitaker, someone who has shown us what resilience really looks like. Last June, we rushed to Watford General to find Grandad recovering from a massive stroke that left him paralysed and unable to breathe. More than a year later, he continues to battle the challenges of recovery, having overcome several life-threatening medical issues since his stroke, all with an incredible sense of humour and superhuman levels of patience. Grandad is currently being looked after in a specialist neurological care-home, where he is a popular patient, determined to succeed on his long road to recovery. He has been an inspiration for the whole family.
Several months ago, we decided to do something to help the Stroke Association. Along with our Dad, Steven, we signed up to run the Royal Parks half-marathon and raise as much money as we could. We should have started training at the same time! We may not break any records, but we’re hoping to raise over £1000 for a cause that means so much to Grandad’s close family, particularly Nana (Brenda), sons (Steven, Craig and Lee) and grandchildren (Amy, Clara, Eloise and Logan). Grandad is in our thoughts and we are all willing him to recover.
