We are taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon as part of #TeamStroke

In April 2022, Sean suffered a stroke. When the paramedics arrived, Sean's speech was completely slurred, and he was starting to lose mobility in his left side. Thankfully the team at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital were incredible, they responded quickly and calmly to work out when the stroke began and conclude that they could treat Sean with thrombolysis; 'clot-buster' medicine used for treating strokes within the first 4 hours. 

We never thought that a healthy, active, 33 year old Sean would suffer a stroke. We know that we are so incredibly lucky that Sean recognised early on that something wasn't right and that the Stroke team at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital were able to treat him such that Sean was able to make a full and quick recovery. 

We know not everyone is as lucky as we are, that's why we have joined #TeamStroke for the Royal Parks Half Marathon 2024.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors like Sean in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

The Stroke Association are here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. They believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so they work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. They rely on all of our support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.
