I'm taking part in the Great North Run as part of #TeamStroke

I joined #TeamStroke for the Great North Run.

There are over 1.3 million stroke survivors in the UK, with 100,000 strokes happening in the UK each year. That's one stroke every five minutes.

We're here to support people to rebuild their lives after stroke. We believe everyone deserves to live the best life they can after stroke, so we work with the stroke community to make sure people affected by stroke get the very best care and support. We rely on your support to provide vital services, campaign for better stroke care and fund research into preventative and rehabilitative treatments.

A life due to Stroke

Wednesday 28th Aug
Since my Dad had his second stroke, this has had a massive impact on his life also his daughter’s life.

Dad is unable to weight balance on his legs.
When he had his second stroke he was mis diagnosed.

Dad is wheelchair bound and is unable to manage day to day living as a able person- such as getting up in the morning, washing, getting dressed , making meals for himself, along with every day tasks as cleaning a home etc..

My Dad managed when he had his first stroke, it took him longer to register in his brain to achieve these tasks that were set out to deliver.
My Dad had many TIA’s.
We now have carers coming in four times per day, along with myself looking after Dad.
My dad still has feelings that he can walk, also that he can do the majority he was able to.
It has taken over a year for Dad to ‘sort’ of accept.
He still cannot accept- he constantly relies on his daughter to feel safe.
Unless you have had a Stroke, you cannot put yourself in anyone shoes’
I know what it is ‘ living with a Stroke victim’
Along with the brain that goes through so many diversions.
Hope you enjoy reading
